Who We Are

Donewell Insurance Company was incorporated under Ghana’s Company Code 1963 (Act 179) on 3rd November 1988; the Company was granted a license to operate as a composite company by the National Insurance Commission (NIC) on 26th February 1993 in accordance with PNDC law 227 and commenced business on 1st March 1993. Over the years it has been selling both life and non-life products within the Ghanaian market. In compliance with the provisions of the new Insurance Act 2006 (Act 724) that requires composite insurance companies to separate their life from the non-life businesses, Donewelll Insurance Company established Donewell Life Company as a limited liability company under the Company’s Code, 1963 (Act 179) in September 2007 to underwrite life insurance business only. Effective January 1, 2008, the Life Division of Donewell Insurance Company started operating as fully-fledged life assurance company under the name Donewell Life Company.

However, following the new regulatory capitalisation requirements by the NIC in 2016, Donewell Insurance Company Limited ceded its total shares in Donewell Life to Pinnacle Equity Investments Limited (A privately owned equity firm) in November 2016.

Mr. Clement Owusu

Mr. Clement Owusu - Chairman

Mr. Clement Owusu holds a BSc. Administration (Accounting) from the University of Ghana Business School and MBA Finance with the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

He attended the West African Insurance Institute in The Gambia where he was awarded the prize for the Highest Scholastic Achievement.
He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK. Mr. Owusu has also attended several seminars and workshops, some of which are:

• Ghana Market Reinsurance Seminar
• International Aviation Insurance Course (Willis, London)
• Comprehensive Technical Programme in General Insurance (National Insurance Academy, Pune, India)

Mr. Owusu has also written various articles on insurance for the Ghana Market as well as the CII Journal. Prior to his appointment, He worked as an underwriter with Ghana Reinsurance Company Ltd from 2006.
Mr. Owusu is a visiting lecturer at the West African Insurance Institute in Banjul, The Gambia.
He is a member of Royal Insurance Gambia Ltd.

Eric Ato Botchway

Eric Ato Botchway - Member

Eric is a Chartered Accountant with experience that spans over 16 years in the insurance industry in Ghana. Prior to becoming the Managing Director, Eric joined Donewell life as the Executive Director in charge of Finance and Administration. He is results oriented and a highly accomplished finance professional. Prior to joining Donewell Life as an Executive Director Eric held Chief Finance Officer positions at Imperial General Assurance, Metropolitan Life Insurance Ghana Limited and Quality Insurance Company Limited.

Eric has expertise in financial reporting, budgeting and budgetary control, forecasting, financial analysis, planning, investment management and strategy.

Eric started his insurance career at Star Assurance and played a key role in the establishment of the Finance Department at Star Life Assurance Company Ltd

He is a Chartered Accountant and member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) (UK) and has Executive MBA (Business Administration – Finance Option) from the University of Ghana Business School.

Eric has attended several conferences and seminars both in Ghana and overseas

John Darko

John Darko - Member

John holds BA (Hons) Political Science and an LLB from the University of Ghana, a BL from the Ghana School of Law and an LLM from the University Of Houston, Texas. He is a lecturer at both the Business School and the Law Faculty of GIMPA. He has over 5 years of extensive experience providing legal services to multinational companies including Global Gas Energy, USA and Trellidor Ghana, as well as Stanbic Bank Ghana. He also provides advisory services to other corporate and individual clients on general commercial matters, and specifically, on mergers and acquisitions. He is also the solicitor for Chamber for Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD).

He has specialty in both teaching and practice of Environmental law, Constitutional law and Natural Resources Law. He taught “Legal Environment of Business” at the MBA level and “Contract Management” at Bachelor’s level at the GIMPA Business School.

John is a proud recipient of the “Association of International Petroleum Negotiators” (AIPN) and “Rocky Mountains Mineral Law Foundation Scholarships”. He is currently working on publishing his LLM thesis on “Avoiding the Resource Curse in Ghana: The Role of Law”. John has attended several international conferences in oil and gas, particularly the AIPN spring conference in Galveston, Texas on Current Events and Future Trends in the World’s Hydrocarbon Hotspots.

He also actively participated in Rocky Mountains Mineral Law Annual Institute’s conference in Calgary- Canada. He took part in “Critical English Law Issues for International Oil and Gas Conference” in Houston. He was one of the participants at AIPN conference in “Investing in the Energy Sector in Emerging Markets”, held in Washington D.C.

John recently presented a paper titled “Ghana’s Petroleum Revenue Management Law: The Saviour That Never Was, a Problem With the Law or the Leadership?” at Green Templeton College, Oxford University, UK. John is a Partner of Darko, Keli-Delataa & Co. Besides, he has affiliations with the following organizations—the Ghana Bar Association, the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, USA and the Center for Energy, Petroleum & Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), UK.

Amy Acquaye

Amy Acquaye - Member

Amy Acquaye MBChB is a graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. She trained in the field of radiology and did her housemanship at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi after graduating as a Medical Doctor.

Amy has been practicing since 2003 in Accra, at the 37 Military Hospital where she currently serves as a Senior Resident at the Radiology Department of the Hospital. Amy’s specific interest include interventional and paediatric radiology.

Prior to her housemanship in 2003, Amy was a Medical Intern at the Universitatsklinikum Aechen and Ashanti Goldfiled Company Medical facilities in Germany and Ghana Respectively.

Amy is a certified member of Ghana Medical Association. She has attended various workshops and conferences in the field of Radiology in her native country and abroad.

Emmanuel Takyi

Emmanuel Takyi - Member

Emmanuel is a corporate member of the Ghana Institute of Engineers and holds a BSc. Civil Engineering from KNUST and MSc. Project Management from OUM, Malaysia. He also holds a Diploma in Contract Negotiations and Management from Institute of Commercial Management, United Kingdom.

Having worked in various capacities ranging from Resident Engineer to Project Manager in the construction industry, he has developed both technical and managerial skills in leading complex functional projects in the built, financial and other related environment.

Takyi has led teams in executing multi-national contracts for clients like the European Union, World Bank and Africa Development Bank. He has worked on projects outside Ghana and has an optimum capacity in handling diverse cultural backgrounds.

He is currently the Project Manager of a European Union Funded project overseeing the construction of over 200 affordable housing at Asutsuare in the Eastern Region.

He is currently an associate member of the PMI (Project Management Institute- USA).

Michael Mba Allan

Michael Mba Allan - Member

Mike Allan is a consultant and a director of Riskplus Consult Limited, a management and training consulting firm. After a stint as an officer in the Ghana Army, he entered the University of Ghana in 1986 and graduated in 1989, with BA (Hons.) in Sociology with Economics. He also holds a MBA (Marketing) degree from the same university and a Diploma in Insurance from the West African Insurance Institute (WAII), The Gambia. He worked as Sales Manager for Industrial Fire Engineers after his first degree. He joined KAB Marketing Associates in 1996 as an Assistant Consultant/ Trainer, where he conducted training programmes and carried out marketing consulting projects for reputable financial services companies. After a brief stint in university teaching in 1998, he join the insurance industry as a Marketing Manager for Star Assurance Co. Ltd. He moved on to work as a General Manager for an insurance broking firm in 2006. He later set up Riskplus Consult Limited and was its first Executive Director.

He now consults privately, lectures and is a director of Riskplus Consult Ltd and Sirius Opportunity Fund.  He has expertise in export management and marketing research. He possesses a thorough and practical understanding of all aspects of marketing, including services marketing, export marketing and market research, gained through his many years of industry experience and consulting. He has a wealth of experience in the development and management of small & medium-size enterprises. He was for several years a director of Integrated Productivity Development Centre (INPRODEC). INPRODEC, a non-governmental organization, was engaged in training, development and funding of export-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises.

Clement Annobir Eshun

Clement Annobir Eshun - Member

A confident Tax and Accounting professional with over twenty five years related experience in tax planning, tax management, financial appraisals, accounting, auditing, banking and finance.

Mr. Eshun currently functions as Acting Head of Internal Audit of GCB Bank Limited and responsible for developing and implementing strategic audit plan for independent assessment and evaluation of controls over procedures and processes in departments and branches. Mr. Eshun also plans and reviews reports on operational and functional audits of Departments and Branches and offers advice to management on their policies, procedures and other activities and suggesting recommendations for operational improvements.

He liaises with External Auditors and also keeps the Board Audit and Compliance Committee informed on routine risk based audit findings. He also follows up on periodic report to Bank of Ghana Supervising and Financial Stability Departments. Mr. Eshun has oversight over training and mentoring of Internal Audit staff and also ensuring their welfare needs are met.

He has been working in GCB Bank Limited since September 2001 in various Departments including Head of Accounts Department, Deputy Administrator of Learning Centre and currently Acting Head of Internal Audit Department.

He brought a lot of reforms and value addition to GCB Bank during his time with the Accounts Department and succeeded in challenging Internal Revenue Service (Now Ghana Revenue Authority) on corporate income tax assessment between 1996 and 2000 years of assessment, which led to a huge tax savings of fifteen million, six hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS15, 600,000) to GCB Bank Limited. He also introduced prompt, timely and regular payments of staff salaries and allowances through the online payment system of the Bank.

Prior to joining the bank, he worked with local and foreign external Audit Firms notably Pannel Kerr Forster as Tax/ Audit Manager. He has excellent written and oral communication skills. Mr. Eshun is member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana and member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana. He holds an Executive MBA (Finance) from the University of Ghana. He is currently pursuing Certification with the Institute of Internal Auditors.

His hobbies include listening to music and watching football matches. He is a practicing Christian and married with children.
